Psychological First Aid Training - This training is designed to give people the
tools they need to recognize the signs of emotional trauma immediately
following a difficult experience, as well as the tools they need to
provide immediate care and referrals. Some goals of the training are to
provide practical help for immediate care, to legitimize the equal
importance of psychological first aid to physical first aid, promote
emotional resiliency in the activist community, and encourage peer support
leading up to large events such as the RNC. The training covers defining
stress and emotional trauma; signs and reactions to emotional trauma; how
to address those reactions; active listening exercises, breathing
exercises, & body awareness; red flags for more serious issues; and
preventative care. This training will provide some context that is
specific to the RNC, but is not meant to be a substitution for the Bridge
Trainings.
These trainings are scheduled for:
-Sat 8/23 from 10am-1pm at the Hosmer Library - 347 East 36th St in
Minneapolis
-Tuesday 8/26 from 7pm-10pm at the Convergence Space - 627 Smith Ave S in
St. Paul
-Wednesday 8/27 from 3pm-6pm at the Convergence Space - 627 Smith Ave S in
St. Paul.
Action Medical Bridge Training - This training is designed to bridge the
gap between health care professionals (medical, mental health &
alternative practitioners), and the set-up of an action-oriented First Aid
& Wellness Center. Some goals of the training are to provide a working
knowledge of scenarios we are likely to see during the RNC; to explain the
difference in procedure between the usual clinic/hospital/private practice
setting and the action-oriented First Aid & Wellness Center; and to
address cultural sensitivity to those who do not necessarily have first
hand knowledge of activist culture.
These trainings are scheduled for:
-Monday 8/25 from 5pm-8pm at the Bedlam Theater - 1501 S. 6th Ave in
Minneapolis
-Thursday 8/28 from 5pm-9pm at the University of Minnesota (more details
on location will be available soon)
-Saturday 8/30 from 10am-1pm at the First Aid & Wellness Center - 639
Jackson St in St. Paul
Trans Health Advocacy Training - This training is designed to address and inform people of the specific needs of transexual folks in the medical & legal sense during a protest situation. This training is not facilitated by the North Star Health Collective's Wellness Space Organizers, but is highly recommended!
This training is scheduled for:
-Monday 8/25 from 8pm-9pm at the University of Minnesota's 720 Washington Avenue space. Attendees must meet in the lobby before hand to be let into the training space.
Where There's Fear, There's Power - Naming It & Claiming It - This training will create a container in which to discuss fears relating to the RNC, specifically what those fears are for each of us; how we experience (embody and sense) those fears; and how we choose to be in relation to those experiences of fear. In this training we hope to offer a space to understand that fear is a power that is built into our biological evolution, and that when we name that power, we then create the ability to choose what to do with that power. We would like to offer specific tools with which to transform "paralyzing fear" into "catalyzing power." These tools can allow the participants to see how fear can actually be an ally in our work at the RNC. This training is not facilitated by the North Star Health Collective Wellness Center Organizers, but is highly recommended!
This training is schedule for:
-Monday 8/25 from 3pm-5pm at the Convergence Space - 627 Smith Ave S in St. Paul.
-Monday 8/25 from 6pm-8pm at the Convergence Space - 627 Smith Ave S in St. Paul.
